R+P Post 8: Possible Tracks for the Single

We decided before we started researching tracks that the singer had to be female so that we could use a member of our group as the singer in our video, and we also decided we wanted a track from the Electropop genre.

We first looked into the song 'What if I Go' by Mura Masa:

Positives:
  • Fits with the Electropop genre
  • Song has a clear start middle and end with a build up which we could fit a narrative to
  • Clear beat which we could cut our shots to
  • Lasts exactly 3 minutes
Negatives:
  • The song is quite repetitive
  • The lyrics are about relationships and don't have a deeper meaning so wouldn't be easy to come up with a relevant story
From looking into this song we then moved on to listen to Blk&Blu by Chase and Status:

Positives:
  • Has a modern urban feel due to the dance/ electropop genre
  • The lyrics are open to interpretation and so it would give us freedom to come up with an interesting narrative for our video
Negatives:
  • We were more drawn to the music video and so when we listened to the track without the video we found it boring
  • The track doesn't have a clear beginning middle and end and no build up

From here we came across the artist AlunaGeorge and we were drawn to a lot of her songs after listening to her album Body Music.

We particularly liked the tracks I Remember and Best Be Believing. After listening to both tracks a few times and we decided Best Be Believing was the track we wanted to use for our music video:

Positives:
  • Fits with our Electropop genre
  • The singer is female
  • The lyrics convey a message that can be interpreted in a few ways which mean we could come up with a narrative for our video
  • It has a clear beginning middle and end with a contrasting bridge section in the middle
